Sending letter to Koly - main character in my novel!!!

Dear Koly!!!
I'm Becky - a person wants to talk to you how my feeling is. Why did you decide to get married with Hari - strange boy? You didn't know anything about him. Although you had a too poor family, I think you shouldn't do that. You can have many choices that your family becomes better or richer. At least, you can help your family overcome difficulties. If I were you, I wouldn't do that because I was only thirteen. At that age, I could have many things to learn, to know, or to discover. Although you were forced to marry with Hari by your parents, I wouldn't obey my parents's force if I were you. At your period, I know you didn't have much power to be hostile to own parents, yet I will change that rule. I will persuade my parents in order that they can understand my opinion, understand my feeling, and understand my aspiration, which is hope that is allowed to go to school, is permitted to do whatever I like, just as boys in India are allowed to do. Why didn't you resist anything that is unfair or illogical between girls and boys in India? Although I see it's so difficult to change India's tradition, it's too unfair for Indian women. They weren't allowed to do anything they liked or wanted. They had to abide by many draconian formalities. Furthermore, women in India weren't permitted to get married with people whom they fell in love. On the other hand, you couldn't resolve anything. You were so pitiful because of your parents, and especially you became widow when you were only thirteen. Your difficulty haven't come to an end yet. Parents-in-law behaved you atrociously. They brought you to a strange place; nevertheless, they didn't disown and leave you at the place in which widows were permitted to live. I feel discontened with you, and I sympathize with your decision when you agreed to marry with Hari and agreed with parents-in-law's arrangement.
In brief, I'm sorry you were unlucky and poor girl because of your poor family, your strict country's rule, and imparity between men and women in India, which made your life become worse, which led to unfortunate widows, who didn't receive love they could be gotten from everybody in their society.

Encyclopedia Research!!!!

My topic is Medicine. Why do I choose this topic??? Because I'm interested in pharmacy. I want to know what medicine's difinition is. I want to find out which kind of medicine is helpful, healthy, and best.

  1. The name of encyclopedia is Gale Encyclopedia Of Alternative Medicine.Volume number is 3. When I read this book, I collected much knowledge from it. It talks many fields, which related to Medicine. This book is very helpful for me. Now, I can answer many questions that I wondered. There are many interesting topics; such as, the asthama disease's causes, what disease is, the effects of hypertension, or treatments of dangerous diseases..... Thus, after reading this encyclopedia, I can know precautions to prevent from serious diseases for us. For example, for sleep paralysis_ an adnormal disease in which the patients can't move for a few minutes, usually happening to falling asleep or waking up, and its treatment is having several short naps scheduled throughout the day. It can help abate some of the sleepiness associated with narcolepsy. In fact, there is a lot of information, which is very useful for my topic.
  2. My subject encyclopedia is Native American Medicine. This subject is in Volume 3 of " Gale Encyclopedia Of Alternative Medicine". This subject is talking about:
  • What is Native American Medicine's difinition??? According to Ken " Bear Hawk" Cohen, it is depended on having confidence in healthy living, the influence of disease producing behavior, and spiritual rule.
  • Where did it originate from??? Tranditions of it have been trained in North American. Although there is a standard system, there is about 500 nations of native people in North American, each illustrating a various riches of healing knowledge, formality, and ceremonies.
  • Which benefits does medicine have???

- to live a life of adequateness and equilibration.

- to be an important part of an incorporation approach to healing.

- to inherit conditions as birth defects.

- will not treat a person because they don't want to interfere with the life lessons the patient needs to learn.

  • Precautions:

+ For hypertension: observe themselves during a sweat lodge ceremony for a possible increase in blood presure.

+ For asthama: have difficultly when wise is used in a ceremony.

3. After reading two parts, which are General Encyclopedia and Subject Encyclopedia. I can compare and contrast them. First, General encyclopedia is a type of the book that has a lot of information about almost all majors or everything which we are needing, but it is only general. It just talks main ideas or writes information generally and succinctly. On the other hand, Subject Encyclopedia is another type of the book that gives us much information clearly. This is a part which has a lot of details to support to main idea in General Encyclopedia. We can get a point in General Encyclopedia, and we can also look for many supporting details in Subject Encyclopedia. Those are differences between General and Subject Encyclopedia.

* Summarize the information for my oral presentation:

I will talk about:

  • What is difinition of "Native American Medicine"?

  • What benifits did it bring along us?
  • I will describe about benefits, which are influenced to our lives.
  • Precautions for everybody to prevent from "hypertension", "asthama", and "claustrophobic"

Money is important, but it isn't everything
(Women & Money)
MONEY AND HAPPINESS
by Suze Orman
  • Summary:
  • Academic words from this article talked about a powerful connection between money and happiness, which are two of the most powerful forces in our existences. According to this article, although many people have a lot of money, they don't have happiness. Money can't create happiness for them, but it's very necessary in our lives. There are many articles which talked about lottery winners. After winning lottery, they can buy goodies, and they felt happy, but that feeling is temporary. That's reason; happiness doesn't connect to how much we have. When we are connected to our hearts, we are successful, so we can create our own financial constancy because we are honest with the life. Finally, we get happiness.
  • My opinion:
  • Actually, money can also bring me happiness, but it's not long time. It's provisional. This reading made me think it's true that money is important; however, it is not everything. We want happiness which is based on our honest. In nowadays society, all of us need money and happiness. Some people think money will bring happiness, but it's not real. Money that we really nees isn't all. We want happiness, so we should be honest by ourselves, and we will feel truthful by ourselves, so we are successful and happy.

Summarize novel *-* (1 - 47)

Homeless Bird
by Gloria Whelan

This was talking about Koly, who is 13 years old. She's Indian. With her parents's conception, this was time for her to have a husband as many girls in India. On the other hand, her family was so poor, so her father wanted to get dowry when she gets married. She has two brothers: Gopal - older brother and Ram - younger brother. Her two brothers was allowed to go to school, yet she wasn't permitted to do that because her mother thought school was a waste for girls althought she really liked to go to school as boys, so she couldn't read books. The women in her family embroidered. Her parents found Koly a husband and prepared wedding for her. Her mother did with a length of red muslin for her. Relatives and friends began to search for a bridegroom. Mehta's family would be her second family. Her husband's family was richer than her family. Suddenly, Koly hasn't met new husband. Her husband was Hari, who was sixteen years old. He wasn't strong as many another boys. He was ill with flu, and his illness was very serious, but Koly's family didn't know that. Koly's life was very diffcult. She lived shyly with all members in husband's family. After the celebration, Koly slept in Chandra's room - her sister-in-law's room because Hari was sick to have to stay with his parents so that his mother could take care of him. From the celebration until now, Koly has never met her husband. Her life in husband's house was very strict. In her mind, there were many questions, such as: why did Hari's parents want him to get married with Koly when he was sixteen??? Was he 16??? why did they want him to marry when he was ill??? etc... Until one day, she heard that Hari died. Every her worriness were answered. Hari was exactly 16. They wanted him to get marry with her that he got better, but it didn't happen. Hari's bury would be done in Varanasi, so Koly became a young widow......
(wait for next week)

Opinion:
Although I just read this novel 47 pages, I enjoyed this story about Koly's life. Why did I like it? I think this is new chance for me to understand culture from India. A culture is very strict and hard for many girls - who is 13+. A life is ups and downs. Why do Indian's culture discriminate between girls and boys??? It is no fair. Girl can't go to school, can't use books, etc... why??? Koly's life is example. When I read in page 1 and 2, I thought Koly was very stupid why she decided to get married with stranger and why she didn't oppose with her parents's acerbic idea, but now I saw she determined that because of her family, her parent, and her family's poverty. Moreover, she got married with the man she didn't like, didn't love, and even didn't know how her husband's face was. Unbelievable!!! I don't know how Koly's life will be. Will her difficulty disappear??? Hopefully, she will be better. Wait and see.

Summarize Newspaper!!!

What does " organic" really mean???
Sara Zellar
A&E Editor
(The Seattle Times)
  • Summary:

There are 125 contents which are allowed to use in the production, but farmers still have many difficult problems. According to Miles McEnvoy, the purpose of program isn't exclusion of pesticides and herbicides. Most of the used people always think that foods which are titled as organic are better for them, but there is a little bit pesticide in remaining of organic foods.

There is disallowance to use in yeild or animal produce if not particularly permitted under the National List. Mike _ an organic farmer _ likes to demonstrate about crops which he plants vegetable with organic seeds. The demand of animal produce is also absolute. Animal and chicks have to be organic. According to the National List, there are some substances permitted to use in animal produce, in foods named as organic, and in cattle titled as organic. Also, there are unharmful contents, so they are pernitted.

Farmers want to use pesticides so that they can have healthier garden. Some pesticides are unharmful because they can creat insects's death. Farmers called a substance which is Neem, and it can make insects not to grow up.

  • Opinion:

Actually, I think organic is very useful. It can make crops better, and it can also be necessary for cattle and chicks, but it is harmful, too. We can be poisoned by pesticided. I don't know how they are in the US, but in Vietnam, many farmers want their crops are good, so they use pesticides a lot that fruits or vegetable are fresh. That's reason, when any consumer buys foods, they always wash them carefully because if they don't wash them, they can be poisoned by them. In brief, if farmers know to use them logically, I think they will be useful and better for us. On the contrary, farmers use them without their effect. They only think about their profit, so organic will become a very poisoning thing.

Introduce myself !!!

Hi, everybody. This is the second time I creat blog for my study.
Let's start to introduce myself. My name's Tran Khoi Nguyen - 19 years old. You can call me Becky. It's ok for me because I know my name's pronunciation is very difficult for some people. Do you know what my real name means??? "Tran" is my last name. "Khoi Nguyen" means one person who is smart, strong, and nice. Actually, it's just my parent's hopefulness. I must try my best extremely that they feel satisfied about me. For me, my life is wonderful and mysterious. There are manything I need to search. With my opinion, family is first of my list. Actually, I can't live far from my family. However, because of my future, I have come to U.S for study. I have studied at Seattle Central Community College for more than 6 months. I had more experiences about living alone. 3 months ago, I felt bored, lonely, and homesick, so I always wanted to go back my country to stay at my lovely house and to live with my strict father, my graceful mother, and my naughty brother, but I couldn't. Why was I a shy and not confident girl at that time??? The reason is when I was Vietnam, I usually depended on my family. I never did anything which was hard, but now I hope I'm better than before. My plan in the future is trying to finish college program to go to university as soon as possible to be able to earn money of my parent and to be possible to realize my dream _ becoming a good businesswoman. :D
In Vietnam, I sometimes read novels, but I never read nespapers about politics of any countries. That's reason I don't know any information about World's history. So poor!!! Now, I recognize about my defect. From now, I will try to change my habit step by step to be able to receive many good results as I expect.
Thank you for enjoying my blog.
